Toronto Star: Star reporter Barbara Turnbull overcame debilitating injury to carve out a superlative career

Noted Toronto Star reporter and accessibility activist Barbara Turnbull died on Sunday at the age of 50. 

The Star reports that Turnbull died Sunday afternoon from complications related to pneumonia. In 1983 Turnbull, who was a teenager at the time, was shot during a convenience store robbery that caused her to be paralyzed from the neck down. She went on to become a Star reporter, and her recovery was an inspiration for many.

Turnbull reported for the Life section of The Star, and she wrote features and health items. She founded The Barbara Turnbull Foundation for Spinal Cord Research.
