CRWDP Webinar Series

You are invited to attend Webinar #22, as part of the CRWDP Webinar Series, taking place on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 12:00 PM EST.

This webinar will be presented by Sara Lacarte (Social and Behavioural Health Sciences Division, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto). Sara’s presentation is entitled “The development of the 3B~S Scale: Using participatory action research to co-design an outcome measure for occupation-based mental health programs”.

Presentation Description: Peer support is an important element of consumer/survivor initiatives with occupation-based mental health programs. Peer-led occupation-based programs have been known to have a positive impact in members civic participation and employment. However, measuring the success of these programs according to their mandates can be challenging, especially when traditional clinical evaluative assessments are not an appropriate fit.

In this presentation, Sara will discuss the development process of an outcome measure designed to evaluate the Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA). The measure is grounded in a conceptual model in occupational therapy known as the 3Bs: being (defining oneself), belonging (social inclusion), and becoming (employment/civic participation). The model has been augmented to include measures which assess the impact the program has had on reducing the use of hospital and crisis services by its membership. In addition to learning about a unique occupational skills development program, audience members will learn about an application of a participatory action research approach to the co-design of the 3B~S scale.
